U.S. 70 serves as one of the main routes to Hot Spring National Park. With over 13,000 vehicles traveling on this road every day, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) saw an opportunity to help improve safety and relieve congestion on this route. This $78.5 million design project created three additional lanes (expanding from two to five as well as four new bridges, wider shoulders, and installed a traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 128. ARDOT’s clear communication with the public not only helped ensure project operation functioned smoothly but helped speed up completion three months of schedule. The result is a safer, smoother, and speedier route for travelers between Benton and Hot Springs.
