Built along a former railroad corridor, the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail, Phase II, is 4.9 miles long and provides residents of Sussex County the opportunity to stay active and be outdoors away from vehicle traffic. It provides a crossing on one of the busiest roads in the state – Route 1. Completed in 2019, the trail saw an average of 743 visitors on the week days and more than 2,000 on the weekends between June and October of 2019. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) already has plans to begin phase III this year in what will complete the single longest trail in the state at 17 miles, providing residents and visitors alike with the ability to stay active and get outside.
