More than six years in the making, the $834 million Northwest Corridor Express Lanes project is one of the biggest efforts yet by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to address traffic congestion along I-75 and I-575 corridor in Atlanta. The project added two additional lanes along I-75 as well as an additional lane to I-575, along with improvements to bridges. Six new express interchanges were also constructed. Drivers now have various access points to enter the corridor, helping further reduce traffic congestion on this busy route. The nearly 30 miles of tolled lanes beef up Georgia’s growing express lanes network – helping to create more effective ways for drivers to get where they need to be faster, all while giving an extra boost to the state’s economy.
