Idaho Transportation Department – Blacks Creek Bridge Slide

This $15.7 million project saved time for motorists by utilizing innovative methods to slide a replacement bridge into place at the I-84 Blacks Creek interchange. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) built the abutments under the existing bridge and the bridges off to the side without disrupting traffic on I-84. Following demolition of the old bridge, ITD slid the new bridge into place and paved the approaches – restricting traffic flow from two lanes to one for only two weeks per bridge. This saved several months of closures for drivers – primarily truck traffic – while installing a newer, safer bridge without the commuter headaches.
