The existing Pennsylvania Avenue Overpass bridges in Coeur d’Alene were at the end of their expected life and experienced significant deterioration in recent years. They also did not meet current geometric standards for the physical layout of the structures. The Idaho Transportation Department set out on a $6.8 million project to make the overpass safer and more efficient through this key I-90 corridor. Accelerated Bridge Construction methods cut construction time in half, greatly reducing impacts on drivers. The new Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge is a single three-span, pre-stressed concrete structure that is ready to meet the needs of the traveling public today and into the future.
