Illinois Department of Transportation—Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90)/Illinois Route 23 Interchange

Marengo is a rural town located about 60 miles outside of Chicago. The town also sits along the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. In order to boost the town’s economy and improve the connection for residents, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) created the first direct intersection in the county. This $33.4 million project utilized a cost-sharing policy that split the construction costs between users of the tollway, IDOT, and county partners. The new design features all-electronic tolling and roundabouts and a dedicated route designed for trucks. This new route helps to improve movement for truck traffic, which helps to keep everyone safe on the road. In addition, the location of the new interchange provides travelers with connections to regional transportation and shipping centers, as well as both of Chicago’s major airports and Northern Illinois University.
