U.S. 45 is known for its notorious “bottleneck” traffic, causing long wait times for travelers in Lake County. Drivers would sometimes would wait up to 15 minutes to go a quarter of a mile at the height of rush hour. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) proposed a $31 million solution that would widen the Millburn Bypass. Consisting of five lanes, the new design not only eliminates congestion, but it provides opportunities for connections to nearby trails and sets the stage for economic growth. While preserving this historic area, residents and travelers alike with a safer driving experience with less waiting.
