Illinois Department of Transportation’s Modernizing a Gateway: Weber Road Diverging Diamond Interchange

Since the opening of the Weber Road interchange in 1990, the local population around that roadway has nearly doubled in size. To accommodate rising traffic volumes, population influx, and growth in job openings, this $96 million project focused on addressing immediate operational and safety concerns surrounding that interchange. The project significantly improved mobility for the 35,000 motorists passing through the interchange daily through capacity enhancements and shorter traffic signal timing phases. The new interchange provides safer connectivity for multimodal transportation, improving quality of life for the local communities surrounding it.
