The signaled interchange at State Route 2 and US 20 was the site of numerous crashes that resulted in injuries. In order to address the safety concern, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) knew it had to come up with a solution to ensure driver safety. That solution was a $9 million project that separated the two highways by creating a bridge to carry traffic north to south on State Route 2 and east to west traffic passing under on U.S. 20. New features included a dedicated left turn lane, ramps, and a right-only turnout near a truck stop along the route, eliminating the likelihood of crashes. Now, drivers can move through safer and with less congestion.
