Indiana Department of Transportation— U.S. 27 & U.S. 40 Downtown Revitalization

U.S. 27 and U.S. 40 runs through the city of Fort Wayne. When the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) determined that the road needed to be replaced, it got to work on a much needed update. The $24 million revitalization effort used precast concrete panels to reduce the length of time of that the road needed to be closed. INDOT worked over four days to reduce the pavement depth and install more than 200 panels. The choice in materials not only allowed the work to be completed faster, it also extends the life of the road and requires less maintenance – saving time and taxpayer dollars.
