Kansas Department of Transportation – Kidron Loop Trail: North Newton’s Backyard

The Kidron Loop Trail in North Newton provides the community a way to maintain an active lifestyle and improve connections to neighborhoods. The $720,000 project resulted from the collaboration between the Kansas Department of Transportation and the community – encompassing its planning team, college students, local nonprofits, and the cities of Newton and North Newton – to make it happen. The trail connects North Newton to the neighboring city of Newton (and surrounding Harvey County) and is a part of the larger “Trail of Two Cities” initially completed in 2006 and opened in 2020. The trail also features community activities such as a pickle ball court and links the community to local historic sites like the 150-year-old Chisholm Trail ruts and Kauffman Museum. Thanks to the community effort and support, the Kidron Trail will continue to connect those communities for years to come.
