LA: John James Audubon Bridge Project

Mississippi River between Pointe Coupee and West Feliciana Parishes, LA
Louisiana DOTD’s $406 million Audubon Bridge over the Mississippi River offers motorists a safe and efficient crossing by providing the only bridge on the river between Natchez, Miss., and Baton Rouge, LA (about 90 miles), helping to cut down on traffic congestion and bring additional tourism into the area. The project, the first design-build project completed by DOTD, was the answer to the question of how to bring additional economic growth to the area while also cutting down congestion. The bridge takes people who have no need to travel through Baton Route or New Orleans off busy I-10, a relief to truckers wanting to avoid congestion in some of those areas. The bridge also provides a solid and safe evacuation route in case of hurricanes or other natural disasters, as it runs parallel to I-10.
