Maryland Department of Transportation — U.S. 50 at Severn River Bridge Project

The US 50 Severn Bridge serves 126,000 travelers every day from all over the Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis. To help address traffic needs on the 2,900-foot-long structure, the Maryland Department of Transportation initiated a $22.8 million project to add a continuous eastbound lane within the bridge and the connecting roads. This project also deployed a precast median barrier to help maintain motor vehicle throughput and travel times while improving worker safety. The project’s additional lane improved traffic flow, substantially relieving congestion and saving the travelling public an average of 10 minutes on their daily commutes.
