Michigan Department of Transportation — I-94 Business Loop Reconstruction and Two-way Conversion Project

When the Michigan Department of Transportation sought to improve the functionality of the I-94 Business Loop in City of Jackson, it knew it had to take a strategic operations approach to help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. The solution: a $17.5 million project that reconstructed a major route, Michigan Avenue, and the addressed the conversion of two routes, Louis Glick Highway and Washington Avenue, into two-lane roads to improve accessibility for both drivers and pedestrians. The project also included new street lighting, a new sidewalk, and a bike and pedestrian path. The improvements to the I-94 Business Loop not only improves traffic flow, but now provides a more direct route into Jackson City – benefiting local businesses and helping the city’s economy grow.
