Michigan Department of Transportation – M-231 New Route Construction

Michigan Department of Transportation’s $200 million project on M-231 west of Grand Rapids increased mobility and safety for local communities in Ottawa County. It improved access to jobs, emergency services and tourism destinations in western Michigan while bolstering movement of general freight and agricultural products. Its construction of a bridge spanning the Grand River minimized environmental impacts to wetlands and flood plains, and included aesthetic treatments supported by community partners. The project included a multi-use lane for pedestrian and bicycle travel that connects regional trails from the Lake Michigan shoreline to nearby urban centers.
