Minnesota Department of Transportation — Smith Avenue High Bridge Project

As part of a larger project on Highway 149 between St. Paul and Mendota Heights, the Minnesota Department of Transportation completed the $39 million reconstruction of the roads leading up to the Smith High Bridge – a project that included wider sidewalks, new asphalt, and other improvements to increase safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. Narrow lanes were incorporated to help slow traffic to the bridge. Prior to the start of the project, MnDOT led a comprehensive effort to prepare and inform the public – collaborating with the community to make sure all operations ran smoothly. The department credits that effort to the positive overall outcome of the project, which helped to create transportation options for the community.
