Missouri Department of Transportation – Battlefield & Ramp; Route 65 Diverging Diamond Interchange

Missouri Department of Transportation’s $12.5 million diverging diamond interchange in Springfield improved mobility and safety for both vehicle and non-motorized traffic through a busy intersection at Battlefield Road and Route 65. Throughout the construction phase, MoDOT deployed the innovative intersection design, allowing left-turning motorists to make their movements before they crossed the intersection, using temporary traffic control devices for the first time. This allowed them to speed up construction activities and increase work zone safety, while minimizing traffic delays. Upon completion, the project improved pedestrian and bicycle travel with a new protected, dedicated lane along the middle of the bridge that is signal-controlled.
