Missouri Department of Transportation — Kansas City Divergabout Project

The Missouri Department of Transportation recently deployed a $17.8 million innovative concept for two projects at on U.S. Highway 50 and Interstate 49 in Grandview called a “divergabout.” That traffic pattern is a design tailored specifically for interchanges with high traffic volumes and increased risks of serious crashes. The concept takes a divergent diamond and a roundabout and combines them into one. With a nearby waterpark and other attractions, MoDOT knew a typical design solution would not be practical. The first of its kind in the world, this “divergabout” helped increase traffic flow and reduce delays – helping improve safety for everyone on the road.
