New York State Department of Transportation’s Kew Gardens Interchange

Serving 600,000 vehicles a day, the Kew Gardens Interchange in New York City was experiencing mass congestion and above average crash rates. This project implemented structural and operational enhancements through multiple construction contracts. The $366 million project encompassed the construction of 22 new and three rehabilitated bridges, wider travel lanes, new lane configurations, updated signage, improved storm water drainage, an ADA-compliant pedestrian tunnel, and a shared-use path to better connect communities on both sides of the interchange and increase safety for all, regardless of how one got around the area.
