The Wilmington Bypass connects New Hanover and Brunswick County and completes the 20 mile I-140 corridor around Wilmington, North Carolina, which began over 20 years ago. The combined $210 million project included 7.58 miles of highway including 19 bridges totaling almost 1.58 miles of structures and 6 miles of roadway.
Completion of the project has resulted in decreased congestion, decreased commuter times, and direct access to Brunswick County and US 17 South for commuters. The new corridor contributes to general quality of life and economic development of local communities by creating a controlled access corridor for commuters and freight traffic traveling in and around Wilmington.
