Oklahoma Department of Transportation— I-40 Crosstown and Oklahoma City Boulevard

Opened to the public in summer 2019, the four-lane Oklahoma City Boulevard is the culmination of a nearly 25-year improvement effort to reconnect I-40 to downtown Oklahoma City. This $27 million improvement effort required a significant amount of coordination for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, as there were several construction projects going on at the same time. The project focused on realigning the final two sections of I-40, creating a new gateway to the downtown area. Due to this project, downtown Oklahoma City now has a revitalized landscape that has opened up the area to new economic opportunities. Drivers are now able to access downtown without having to take multiple roads, cutting their overall travel time and providing them with a smoother route – adding to the quality of life of this growing city.
