US Route 7 Bypass Project

The Connecticut Route 7 Bypass Project is a new stretch of highway that extends the original U.S. Route 7 Expressway, improving upon the previous expressway, which directed travelers into a heavily congested area. The central function of this portion of Route 7 to surrounding communities, commuters, and commercial interests made on-time completion a requirement.

To meet an aggressive schedule while minimizing impacts on neighborhoods, businesses and environmental areas, the design and construction team collaborated closely. Several alternative routes and alignments were evaluated, taking into consideration various environmental habitat areas. The project successfully addressed the protection of an adjacent cemetery and the protection of wetlands.
