Nominee: On Time – Medium Project Drivers near Indianapolis are riding on a smoother and safer section of I-465 thanks to innovative planning and traffic control plans by the Indiana Department of Transportation. The $72 million I-465 Northeast Project rebuilt and widened 3.6 miles of I-465 near Indianapolis. By using innovative traffic management plans, Indiana DOT turned a project that was originally planned for at least two construction seasons into a one-season project, saving public money and traffic headaches for the motoring public. Not only was the project completed in just one construction season, but the mainline lanes also opened more than two weeks ahead of schedule and two bridges were completely replaced four days ahead of schedule. |
