WINNER: Innovative Management – Medium Project KYTC turned a winding, two-lane highway into a straighter four-lane highway in an area known for its natural beauty. The cabinet faced the challenge of keeping the natural integrity of the area while updating the road to accommodate traffic. The project greatly reduced bumper-to-bumper traffic on summer weekends and holidays. The new highway has eliminated slow-moving lines of vehicles pulling campers and boat trailers to campgrounds and boat ramps. Promotion of the new hike-and-bike trail along the corridor is expected to bring in more vacationers, boosting the local economy. |
