Nominee: On Time – Medium Project Spanning the Missouri River, the historically significant South Omaha bridge was aging and needed to be replaced. The Nebraska Department of Roads led the construction of the new bridge that increased traffic capacity and, at the same time, improved the safety and accessibility of the Missouri River crossing for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. The $80 million multi-phased project – funded jointly with the Iowa Department of Transportation – was also time sensitive and needed to accommodate national events held in Omaha, only blocks away from the construction site. Six separate projects were synchronized. On May 28, 2010, a huge celebration was held cooperatively by the two states, two days before the prescheduled deadline. |
