WINNER: On Time – Small Project A fast-growing gold-mining town was given relief from traffic congestion in the form of $2 million Spring Creek Roundabout project that eliminated a critical choke point. The project not only increased safety, it won over new fans for roundabouts. State Route 227 is the only all-weather entrance and exit in and out of the small community of Spring Creek, where the population has been growing due to a gold mining boom in the area. The project built the area’s first roundabout at the intersection with Spring Creek and Licht Parkways. The Nevada DOT worked with the contractor and the community to build the project in a three-month window while school was out for the summer. NDOT used local media to inform motorists of lane changes. And NDOT built community support for the project by using local high schoolers to design and build the roundabout’s centerpiece. |
