WINNER: Under Budget – Medium Project SCDOT rehabilitated a stretch of Interstate 385 with minimal inconvenience to motorists using an accelerated construction schedule that provided an improved roadway to the public ahead of schedule and under budget with a total construction period of less than eight months. A more traditional schedule would have exceeded two years. The project included a full rehabilitation of an interstate segment that had originally been constructed more than 50 years ago. Planners used a “get in and get out quickly” approach to the job, which led to completion in record time, saved millions of taxpayers’ dollars, and significantly cut down on the time that drivers needed to use a detour. |
