Delaware DOT saved drivers countless hours in delays and increased safety with its Newark Toll Plaza upgrades on I-95, one of the most congested interstate highways in the nation. DelDOT included two highway speed toll collection lanes in each direction, along with seven northbound and southbound cash toll lanes. Separating the EZ Pass lanes from the cash lanes meant less last-minute changes and confusion by motorists. This $32 million accelerated project was completed a month ahead of schedule. Soon after completion, DelDOT reported a total of 611,332 vehicles passed through the Newark Toll Plaza during 2011’s busy Thanksgiving weekend.
