The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities completed ahead of schedule last fall a $13.7 million project to alleviate vehicle congestion, enhance safety and capacity, provide turning lanes for vehicles, and improve pedestrian facilities near the rapidly growing Hillside area of Anchorage. By completing the work last fall, Alaska DOT&PF limited traffic delays to one construction season. Work included improving the high-volume roadway and adjacent asphalt and gravel multiuse pathways, enhancing drainage, installing new curbs and gutters, making ramps compliant with American with Disabilities requirements, posting new signs, and restriping traffic lanes. Three new roundabouts, which replaced traffic signals, were also constructed. |
