Georgia Department of Transportation saved motorists travel time and an estimated $19 million with its new $7 million Regional Traffic Operations Program. This multi-jurisdictional signal-timing program, monitored from GDOT’s Transportation Management Center, resulted in quicker response to signal problems. The improvements, which included upgrades to the traffic communication system, are expected to reduce travel delay time by 6 percent—a savings of more than 639,000 gallons of fuel, and a reduction of 1.4 million hours of time spent at traffic signals, all during the peak travel times. |
