Iowa’s $19.2 million project reconstructed a stretch of I-680 in just 34 days after Missouri River flooding caused massive damage to the roadway. A project of its size and scope typically takes a full construction season. But Iowa DOT reopened the highway to traffic before the winter set in. Workers were on site 24 hours each day for the first 10 days, only shifting to 14-16 hour days during off-peak times. Due to the strong working relationship between Iowa DOT and its contractors, the project was completed more than a month ahead of schedule, allowing the state to resume its flood recovery. |
