Kentucky tackled one of the most congested and crash-plagued interchanges in the area when it began its $6.2 million US 68 Double Crossover Diamond Interchange project. Lanes were added to improve the flow of traffic, but KYTC decided more had to be done. It implemented a new double crossover diamond design eliminating left turns across traffic and saving KYTC from spending money on new interchange overpasses. The innovative double crossover diamond had never been used in the state, while only six others existed across the country. In its first year since construction, KYTC’s new interchange has greatly improved traffic flow and has been met with approval from drivers. |
