Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s I-10 Twin Span Bridge Replacement project constructed a new bridge after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the old one, essential to the region and the City of New Orleans. DOTD was determined to rebuild a bridge that could restore traffic on the critical national corridor, but also withstand another hurricane. Originally estimated at $803 million, the project was delivered nearly 9 percent under budget at $733 million, saving taxpayers $70 million. The new bridge uses high performance concrete and is designed to have a 100-year lifespan. |
