Route 9 Pedestrian Underpass Project This $8 million project by New York State Department of Transportation aimed to benefit the nearly 4,000 pedestrians by providing a pedestrian underpass on Route 9, a busy north-south corridor. Route 9 split Poughkeepsie-based Marist College in half, forcing students and other pedestrians to travel the route to get to either side of campus. The new underpass greatly improves pedestrian safety and vehicle capacity on the road. By working with closely with the campus and its officials, the project was completed days ahead of schedule, which was also attributed to careful planning and a close working relationship between NYSDOT and its contractor. |
