As the oldest bridge in Reading Berks county, the Penn Street Bridge connects the towns of Reading and West Reading. Constructed in 1913, it provides access to the nearby community college, Front Street, and greenway trails. In order to extend the life of this historic structure, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) completed a $42.5 million rehabilitation effort to restore it to its original design. The result is a beautiful and well-loved historic landmark that provides the community with safe access between two towns.
