Carrying 200,000 vehicles every day, Interstates 85 and 385 in Greenville County serve as major connectors to the I-85 corridor, Charlotte, and Atlanta to South Carolina. Over the years, the interstates had seen their share of wear and tear, and the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) prioritized them for improvements. Those improvements to the interstates included widening the roads, replacing bridges, eliminating tight loop ramps (which stopped traffic from flowing efficiently), and lane enhancements to improve traffic flow upon entering and exiting the interstates. This $245 million project allows for drivers to get where they are going faster, reduces congestion, and provides safer access to all of these major cities.
