South Carolina 153 is a four-lane highway with a three-mile stretch running through the town of Easley; a stretch of road that routinely experienced major backups. The South Carolina Department of Transportation reduced traffic congestion, saved drivers time by creating additional connections to US 123, and provided the community with transportation options with its $32 million S.C. 153 expansion project. The expansion of S.C. 153 provides drivers with an alternative route to Easley town center and the nearby hospital. SCDOT also incorporated new bike paths and sidewalks. The Grassy Knob, a historic forest property with over a dozen streams, is now protected and able to be a water source for the community. Those changes will have a lasting impact on the community for years to come.
