Texas DOT’s roughly $87 million Lowest Stemmons project increased safety and cut congestion for commuters in Dallas.
This section of I-35E had consistently been ranked number eight on the Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s Top 100 most congested roadways, in large part due to the heavy weaving and merging movements to and from I-35E and the Dallas North Tollway. Without acquiring any right of way, the project facilitates direct connections to and from the Dallas North Tollway, dramatically reducing weaving and merging, which ultimately increases safety for motorists—many of whom are driving to work in the adjacent Medical District from lower-income neighborhoods in southern Dallas.
