TN: I-24 Bridges Rehabilitation Project

Tennessee Department of Transportation’s innovative renovation of two I-24 Bridges improved safety and reduced construction-related inconveniences for the more than 140,000 vehicles that utilize the bridges daily connecting downtown Nashville over the Cumberland River.The $8.7 million project used Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) to minimize with prefabricated bridge deck pieces. TDOT developed an aggressive public involvement campaign utilizing bi-weekly e-mails, meetings, a project webpage and social media campaigns with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. The campaign kept the public informed and progress from beginning to end. Due do the substantial outreach, it took only 32 days to replace the bridge. The ABC process saved motorists 56 days of road closures if done by conventional measures.
