Virginia Department of Transportation – Pulse Bus Rapid Transit

To address the need for more transportation options in the city of Richmond, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) began work on its $65 million Pulse Rapid Transit system. This state-of-the-art system features two bus-only lanes, real-time connected stations, and a priority traffic signaling system. Stretching across 7.6 miles – the corridor has seen a dramatic spike in development, helping to improve the local economy and transit accessibility. Pulse Bus Rapid Transit serves around 6,000 riders every day – nearly double the original expectation – and continues to see growth; poising it to transform the community for years to come.
