Virginia Department of Transportation – Towing, Recovery, and Incentive Program (TRIP)

The Towing, Recovery, and Incentive Program or “TRIP” started out as a pilot program developed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to address the clearance efforts for commercial vehicle incidents on the interstate with a standardized towing response. VDOT, along with 11 towing companies that are each assigned zone in a 200-mine coverage area, maintain a simple, straightforward goal: clear an incident from a roadway within 90 minutes. Partners must meet performance measures, including: reducing the amount of time it takes to respond to the incident; the amount of time it takes to clear the road; plus saving time and money. Thanks to TRIP, travelers now see  decrease in the amount of time they spend sitting in traffic, and the program ensures that all operations run smoothly.
