West Virginia Department of Transportation—Oakwood Drive RCUT

West Virginia DOT used the innovative Restricted Crossing U-turn or an RCUT design to address traffic congestion and safety issues on Interstate 64 in downtown Charleston, one of the worst bottlenecks in the state. The RCUT design allowed it to use existing roadways and right of way, required less roadway widening and limited the infrastructure required for the project to traffic signals, lighting, signage, and pavement markings, saving taxpayers an estimated $25 million and making everyone safer.
