West Virginia DOT provided a smoother and safer ride for drivers through Putnam and Mason Counties with its $50 million WV 869-Mason Co 40 project. Nearly 19,000 vehicles travel this roadway each day—a third of which is truck traffic—and experienced a lot of wear and tear on the surface of the road. To make a smoother ride, WVDOT constructed 14.6 miles of a 4-lane highway that would require less maintenance (and therefore a smoother commute for divers) over time. Drivers traveling between these two counties now have a much easier time navigating this route to get to their destinations.
