Wisconsin Department of Transportation – I-794 Hoan Bridge & Lake Freeway

Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s $193 million bridge-building project improved the movement of various types of traffic in the downtown area – freight, transit, business workers and vacationers. The bridge connects the Port of Milwaukee with other interstates and to the historic Third Ward and Maier Festival Park, which draws one million visitors annually. During construction, to enhance safety and mobility crews shifted movable barriers as needed to favor traffic flow in peak directions and used light detection and ranging to gather bridge component data reducing delays while saving time and money. Officials say the reconstruction will promote safe and efficient movement of freight, commerce, transit and commuters for years to come.
