Wisconsin Department of Transportation – IH 41/USH 45 Watertown Plank Road Interchange

Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s $68 million project reduced travel times, increased safety and improved access to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center for the 2 million people visiting yearly. Completed at $4 million under budget, it rebuilt Watertown Plank Road to add motor vehicle and bike lanes, sidewalks, a new interchange with I-41 and a pedestrian bridge linking the area’s Ronald McDonald House and Children’s Hospital. Throughout, crews maintained roadway access for emergency responders, employees, patients and visitors, which officials say was critical to the project’s success. As a result, visitors now enjoy a safer route to the city’s healthcare hub, which generates an annual economic impact of $3 billion.
