Vermont Agency of Transportation’s $3.4 project increased safety, connectivity and mobility by rebuilding the deteriorating floating bridge carrying VT 65 across Sunset Lake near Brookfield in central Vermont. The bridge provides a lakeside crossing alternating one-way vehicular traffic while allowing pedestrian travel via sidewalks. Using innovative construction and floating materials, AOT officials ensured that the bridge continues to satisfy historic requirements by matching its appearance to previous generations. Today it continues to be a community and tourist attraction for nearly 200 years.
