California Department of Transportation $6,000 project has increased safety and reduced crashes at five busy intersections in the City of Redding. Conceived by a top traffic engineer, rings of yellow LED lights, were placed around signal heads to alert drivers that people, who might be out of their view, are about to use the crosswalk. For pedestrians, this safety feature also provides confirmation that the signal received their call. This signal design is now being considered for statewide experimentation by the California Traffic Control Devices Committee.
