Idaho Transportation Department – US 95, Lewiston Hill

Idaho Transportation Department’s $11.5 million investment allowed officials to reconstruct an aging five-mile segment of US 95 on Lewiston Hill to enhance travel safety and mobility. Through innovative practices, they reduced their construction schedule by 21 days reducing impacts to the public and used Bluetooth technology to track signals from drivers’ cellphones and average speeds within the work zone. This helped crews improve safety and traffic flow when bottlenecks were discovered.Using this technology also increased crews’ safety so they could adjust speed limits as needed or ask police officers to increase their enforcement efforts to ensure overall safety.
