South Dakota Department of Transportation – Jackson Boulevard Project (Phase II)

South Dakota’s Department of Transportation’s $13.8 million reconstruction project in Rapid City improved safety, mobility and access along a one-mile segment of Jackson Boulevard from Chapel Lane to the Rapid Creek Bridge, which carries 10,000 vehicles daily. Using the innovative Linear Scheduling Method for the first time, SDDOT officials completed the boulevard’s reconstruction in one year instead of two to minimize impacts to the traveling public. This unique scheduling method allowed them to visually plan and track their process and communicate easily with the project team and community members. As part of the project wider shoulders and sidewalks were built for bicyclists and pedestrians to access businesses and popular community destinations.
