Texas Department of Transportation’s $5.8 million intersection in El Paso allowed officials to implement for the first time an innovative design that increases safety and reduces congestion caused by motorists making turning movements. The intersection lets traffic drive briefly on the left side of the road to allow left turns without crossing oncoming traffic or stopping. The project was completed under budget and improved connectivity to the Fort Bliss military base, employment centers and surrounding communities. It has facilitated deliveries of goods and services around the city, and it serves as an alternate route to I-10 providing easier access to Loop 375 and Spur 601.
